TREE OF LIFE

In order do find the first drop of olive oil, we would have to travel in time back to the Neolithic period, when Man learned to extract olive oil from olives.

The olive tree, a short stature tree revered by several civilizations and easily found on the Mediterranean Sea area, is the true birth place of olive oil.

In 1550 b.C., trading olive oil prospered in Crete Island by the hands of the Minoan people. On the other hand, the Greeks – that inherited from the Minoans the same techniques of cultivation – associated this tree to strength and life.

There are many references to this tree and its fruit in Ancient Greece tales. As in Rome, where the descendants of gods that founded the city saw the light of day for the first time under the branches of an olive tree.

As we mentioned before, olive trees existed for ages. Fossilized remains of olive trees were found in Italy and in Northern Africa, with ages above 6000 years.

The success of this tree is made clear by its longevity. There are olive trees in Palestina with more than 2500 years old.
